Abstract:

The Foyle Special Collections Library houses the printed collections of King's College London, including those of its three constituent medical schools: St. Thomas's Hospital, Guy's Hospital and King's College Hospital. As such, the library holds one of the largest and most important collections of pre-1901 medical books and journals in any UK university, covering all aspects of medicine, anatomy and dentistry, with notable strengths in illustrated anatomical works, surgery, tropical medicine, venereal disease, obstetrics and gynacecology, pharmacopoeias and public health. SERVICES: Photocopying; photography (digital and non-digital); written, e-mail, phone and fax inquiries. Hours: 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday -Friday. Closed Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays and College closed days. New readers will need to provide evidence of identity and, if not affiliated to an academic institution, a letter of introduction.

Holdings:

Special Collection includes c. 13,000 pre-1901 medical monographs and over 7,000 pre-1901 medical journals. Association copies include volumes inscribed by Thomas Addison, Asley Cooper, Thomas Hodgkin, Joseph Lister and Florence Nightingale, among others.
